BJO AT THE  WATERFRONT
Early in November 1997 the members of the BJO Big Band mounted the staging of Belfast's brand new and untried Waterfront Hall. The smell of fresh varnish hung in the air and carpenters and electricians were still at work as music stands and microphones were being arranged. This was to be the first live test of the BBC's sound installed in the Hall and with the musicians barely seated, the tapes began to roll. The first take had begun. Instructions were radioed from the control boxes at the rear of the auditorium and early results showed just how good the sound quality was. Other music groups from around Belfast followed in the weeks to come, the Waterfront opening in the New Year
