| Early in November
1997 the members of the BJO Big Band mounted the staging of Belfast's brand
new and untried Waterfront Hall. The smell of fresh varnish hung in the
air and carpenters and electricians were still at work as music stands
and microphones were being arranged. This was to be the first live test
of the BBC's sound installed in the Hall and with the musicians barely
seated, the tapes began to roll. The first take had begun. Instructions
were radioed from the control boxes at the rear of the auditorium and early
results showed just how good the sound quality was. Other music groups
from around Belfast followed in the weeks to come, the Waterfront opening
in the New Year |
